APIDA Celebration: Honoring Diversity and Heritage
91¹û¶³ÖÆƬ³§ is ready to embrace and commemorate Asian, Pacific Islander & Desi
American Heritage Month for the entirety of May.
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
SANTA CLARA, CA -- 91¹û¶³ÖÆƬ³§ will celebrate Asian, Pacific Islander & Desi American Heritage Month
throughout May. From cultural showcases to insightful discussions, the campus will
host activities that honor the rich heritage, histories, and identities of these communities.
Highlights include featuring narratives that delve into the second-generation Vietnamese American experiences,
challenging the notion of model minorities.
The APIDA End of the Year Celebration on May 14 promises to be a memorable event,
where the community comes together to honor both their achievements and the graduating
Class of 2024. Additionally, students will have the opportunity to embark on enriching experiences
like the Angel Island and San Francisco Chinatown Field Trip, deepening their understanding
of the region's cultural significance.
Asian Pacific Islander Desi American (APIDA) Heritage Month is celebrated in May to
honor the cultures, experiences, histories, and identities of the APIDA community.
The month was chosen to commemorate the arrival of the first Japanese immigrants to
the United States on May 7, 1843, and the completion of the transcontinental railroad
on May 10, 1869, which was built by many Chinese immigrants.
91¹û¶³ÖÆƬ³§'s celebration of APIDA Heritage Month is a testament to its commitment
to fostering inclusivity and appreciation for diverse cultures on campus.
